Jakub Boguszak
Jakub Boguszak was born in Prague, where he received his BA in English Language and Literature from Charles University. After completing his MSt in English at the University of Oxford, he was admitted to Oxford as a doctoral research student funded by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). His current research anatomizes early modern actors’ part-scripts reconstructed from the comedies of Ben Jonson and re-examines some of the long-standing critical commonplaces about Jonson’s attitude to theatre. Not a seasoned translator, Jakub nevertheless greatly enjoys occasional assignments. Among his more recent translations of poetry is a selection of poems by Derek Mahon, gathering verse from Mahon’s later collections: Harbour Lights (2005), Life on Earth (2008), and An Autumn Wind (2010). His Czech renderings of W.B. Yeats’s poems included here are the first of his translations to reach publication.
